ASRT team is experiencing happy and painful moments in rally Talsi

Rally Talsi ended on Sunday with victory of ASRT teams pilot Siim Plangi. This was the fourth victory of Plangi in previous four Latvian Rally Championship stages.

"Rally passed very well, as we won eight of the nine gravel stages, which is positive," says Siim Plangi. "The only bad thing in this rally was the city's special stages, where we lost a lot of time. We will analyze why. Overall, the ride was difficult, because the road surface changed from time to time, but we all managed great. Overall, I am pleased with my own pace, although, of course, there are places where I can still improve my speed. At present, I am very satisfied with the beginning of the season. I would even say – it is a perfect start of the season. I hope that we can continue in the same spirit."

The rally ended badly for Carl Martin Volver, who, while fighting for victory in LRC3 class experienced a severe accident.

"The accident took place in a fast turn. In my opinion, the speed was fine, but there were tracks, from which I was thrown out. At that point the wheels of machine went onto the slippery gravel, after which the car slipped and we drove off the road. I tried to brake, but the car did not stop and we drove into the forest and the car had multiple somersaults. After the accident I had shoulder pain, so I was taken to the hospital for an examination," remembers Carl Martin Volver.

It was the first serious accident for this young and talanted pilot. Although after the crash driver was sad, ASRT team and mechanics cheered him up, saying that only this way he can become a fast and strong driver.

"Of course, there was discomfort, because this was my first big crash. Until then everything was fine and we were able to fight for the highest results. I apologize to the team for what happened. It's a pity, but this is rally and such things happen. Now its important that I recover as soon as possible so that I can return to racing. Now I am going back home to my old car so I can resume driving and regain confidence."

ASRT team leader Mārcis Ķenavs also has partial emotions about the rally.

"The rally was hard both for machinery, as well as drivers. I am sorry about Volvers mistake because until then his speed was very good. After succesful winter season he showed that he can be fast both in the winter and summer. Let's hope that he will quickly recover and that this failure will not have a negative effect on the crew in the future, '"says Mārcis Ķenavs. "We are happy for the crew of Sergei Popov, who after the winter season, showed good performance and reached the finish line, which was also the key. Meanwhile, Ainārs tried out the new machine, to understand what needs to be corrected so that the car would be even faster. This task was successfully done, because now we know what needs be improved to make it even more competitive car."

"We are most happy for Plangi, who proved that he is mature, stable and professional driver, even though he is still young. It is not easy to drive such a serious rally in the first place without a single broken wheel and without any scratch. This proves the fact that he has reached a certain level and is trying to go further. If things continue the same way, perhaps next year we will see him in another car. Plangi shows that he knows how to drive, not only fast, but also smart, stable and able to control his speed."

Next start for ASRT team will be after two weeks in Estonia. "The next in our plan is rally Harju in Estonia where Siim Plangi and Dmitry Feofanov will drive while Volver is under question. Currently, his machine has suffered quite a lot, which will require a major repair, but right now the key is to understand whether the crew after such a major accident will be ready, if at all will be able to drive. At present, together with Volver we are developing a program that will help him regain confidence. We will certainly repair the car in two weeks, but now we must arrange all the documents with insurers," concludes Ķenavs.
